Deep within the gory, blood-stained ones and zeros that comprise most of today’s game, a certain innocence has been lost. Video games are certainly growing up and exploring more complex emotions, but that innocence — that happiness — seems to come at a lesser frequency. If you can remember back to November 15th, 2011, among the cavalcade of game releases that day, Rayman Origins was the beacon of pure, blissful joy between the stabbing and dildo bats. Vibrant colors, an impeccable soundtrack, and some of the best platforming around lifted Origins to become one of this generation’s greatest games, along with being a rare title that downright forced you to crack a smile. You couldn’t resist.
But we’re not here to wax about the achievement that is Rayman Origins. Rather, we have been gathered here to discuss Rayman Legends, the follow-up that has graced practically every viable platform. Legends has big, legless shoes to fill and, for the most part, it has taken up that task with great success.
