Batman is no stranger to being orphaned – hell, we’ve been beaten over the head with it in every medium – but this is the first time we’ve seen Bruce Wayne go up for adoption. Presumably while they work on their next-gen Batman game, developer Rocksteady has handed their baby to new developer Warner Brothers Montreal so they could put out yet another Batman Arkham Something game. New developer, new time period, new Batman, new voice actors; everything is new in Batman: Arkham Origins.

Except that it’s not.

Platform: PC
Release Date: October 11, 2013

soundodger tag

Among taxes, obese chicks, and colonoscopies, life is already full of aspects to dodge. Unless it concerns Nickelback, sound usually isn’t one of those things in life we try to avoid. Until now. Soundodger+ comes to us from Studio Bean, a flash game turned into full Steam release. Just about everything from the aesthetics to the concept in Soundodger+ is deceptively simple, but, in this case, less is more. And there should be more games like Soundodger+.

Rayman Legends Review

rayman legends final

Release Date: September 3, 2013

rAYMAN TAG
Deep within the gory, blood-stained ones and zeros that comprise most of today’s game, a certain innocence has been lost. Video games are certainly growing up and exploring more complex emotions, but that innocence — that happiness — seems to come at a lesser frequency. If you can remember back to November 15th, 2011, among the cavalcade of game releases that day, Rayman Origins was the beacon of pure, blissful joy between the stabbing and dildo bats. Vibrant colors, an impeccable soundtrack, and some of the best platforming around lifted Origins to become one of this generation’s greatest games, along with being a rare title that downright forced you to crack a smile. You couldn’t resist.

But we’re not here to wax about the achievement that is Rayman Origins. Rather, we have been gathered here to discuss Rayman Legends, the follow-up that has graced practically every viable platform. Legends has big, legless shoes to fill and, for the most part, it has taken up that task with great success.

Deadpool Review

deadpool final

Platforms: PS3, Xbox 360, PC
Release Date: June 25, 2013

deadpool tag 3

The Dark Knight has shown the gaming hemisphere how to perfect the fusion of comic book hero and game, but he is the lone example. Wolverine and Spider-Man have had respectable entries — Whoa, whoa, whoa, who cares about that lame Parker kid when he never returns my calls? We’re focusing on me! Not an orphaned bat or my BFF Logan. Me. Deadpool, the one and only. — Wait, you’re highjacking my review on my website just because it is your game? — Yes, nerd. I made my own game so I’ll make my own totally unbiased, not paid-off review of the best game ever. — “Best game ever” might be overselling, but at least High Moon Studios nailed your undeniable charm, wit, and forth-wall breaking tendencies. Although they seemed to forget to brush up on your swordplay.

Is This Like an Introduction?

Get this: I like video games. Absurd.

Now let me shock the deep recesses of your brain again: I like to write and make videos about video games.

I know my originality has definitely blown your socks and undergarments clean off and into your hamper (you’re welcome, by the way), but there’s a point to this. A point that you’re already reading: this website.
